The win against the Crusaders is the result of sound performances by our defense, offense, and special teams. Shoutout to our defensive backs who even put some points on the board for us. Offensively, although we appeared solid on paper, many things need to be cleaned up and addressed. This is still the early stage of the season and we aim to constantly learn and grow from our mistakes.
Having had some struggles getting the run game going last week, our line played a very physical game against the Crusaders. Offensive guard Aki Aho looked at times like a bulldozer with a red helmet. I believe Aho has brought his game to the next level this year, playing with a lot of confidence and grit.
It was good to see Tarmo Pitkänen finally having his breakout game. The team has always understood his value as a crafty route runner and willing blocker. After only one catch in the first two games, he exploded for 160 yards and a touchdown.
Also worth mentioning is the performance of our Finnish QB room, combining for 505 yards and 7 touchdowns. The offense did not miss a beat once Silomaa replaced Urjansson in the third quarter, and Hietakunnas completed his first Maple League pass.
The Wolverines played a well fought game against the Crocodiles and this upcoming derby is very important to us. Playing a city rival always adds some spice to a matchup, and with a win, we could be in a great position heading into our bye week and midsummer break.
